Most distance learning courses require the use of a computer. A few recommendations from IEC:

Your Computer

If you are considering the purchase of a new computer, shop and compare among the name brands. Educate yourself and become a smart shopper. The key features to compare are:
Processor performance
Gigabytes of Random Access Memory (GB of RAM)
Size of hard drive
Size of monitor
Availability of telephone help or support

Internet Access

Internet access is a must for most long-distance education courses. A list of local Internet service providers is available in the yellow pages under "Internet" and through online searches. Compare services and prices before you buy.

An Email Account

You should have an email account available for your use. The majority of Internet service provider's packages include an email address. If your package does not include email, take advantage of one of the many free email service providers on the Internet. Yahoo, Hotmail and Juno all provide free email.

Printer

Printers allow you the freedom to print class materials and study away from your computer.
